Home Office Reveal
I’m so happy to finally reveal my home office, creative corner, Happy Space, if you will. I’ve included the details of this Ikea Desk Hack below as well as the inspiration I used for this space. After a lot of pinning and researching, I am happy to say that it is officially done. When we first bought this house I thought for sure that I wanted to paint this “black monster” cabinet above white and bright, but after realizing that I could somehow incorporate my favorite designer into my creative space in this house, I was all for it….Kate Spade here I come!
I think the one piece that started it all has to be this llama lamp my husband and I found at Target one night. It was the first thing I bought for my area before I even had the desk itself. After much debate in Target. Chris and I were asking random people what kind of animal it was. I mean there was no question in my mind it was a llama…but we asked around and surprisingly enough they were all in agreement with me. It was in fact a llama. I have an infatuation with llamas and alpacas which I will discuss at another time. His ears were gold…so there came the obsession for all things Gold, White, Blush, and Black. What better way to bring in a little Kate Spade to the space than black and white stripes? I found this cute fabric at Hobby Lobby, on sale of course, which matched perfectly to the knobs I replaced. Before they were just chrome round pulls, but now they are these little beauties.
I glued my fabric to the panes of the black monster so the piece so it wouldn’t look so stark. It adds some appeal as well as some texture. For my desk space I decided to get some inspiration from Pinterest. I knew that I wanted an L-shaped desk since it was located in the corner of our loft space, but sometimes I just didn’t want to face the wall. The blogger I took inspiration from is listed below. She had the best L-shaped desk configuration I had seen. And it was from Ikea! I also wanted to incorporate my Goodwill file cabinet featured here to have more filing space for all that pesky paperwork.
Desk L-Shaped Layout inspired by the very talented Leah Remillet. Her office is amazing and I definitely wanted her particular desk layout for my corner office. So thank you Leah for inspiring me!
Below are the pieces we picked up from IKEA.

It’s darling! I love that llama lamp! I can definitely see the Kate Spade inspiration. Thanks for sharing! I randomly came across your blog and love the name. My sister’s name is Robin and every time I see a nest or robin’s eggs I think of her.

Hi Robyn,
LOVE the l-shaped desk! How did you connect the two tabletops to secure the l-shape?
robynssouthernnest
They actually just sit right beside each other. I didn’t connect them with anything. It helps if you have carpet or a rug underneath because they won’t slide around.

Where did you purchase the white filing cabinet next to your desk?
robynssouthernnest
It’s from Ikea. Here’s the link http://bit.ly/2N0yBhB

This is gorgeous! May I ask – can you sit in the corner or are there legs there? I’d like to place my monitors in the corner of the desk so I can see out the window. If you didn’t put legs there, how does the desk stay stable? You have great taste!

I love your space. I’m about to recreate this exact desk from IKEA in my spare bedroom. It would help me out to know the exact measurements of the desk you used. I know You mention “the smaller one” and “the larger one” are they the 39” & 47” or 47” & 59”?
robynssouthernnest
They are the 47 and 59. Best of luck! 🙂
