How to Easily Update Your Hardware

I have a solution for how to easily update your hardware. I’ve been meaning to update the hardware on my desk for quite sometime, and finally got around to it today. Rub ‘n Buff is the easiest way to update your existing hardware if you want to go with a different tone. It comes in all different colors as you can see below.

Rub ‘n Buff Finishes

Tip: If your existing hardware has a shiny finish I would suggest spray painting it a matte black first and then adding the metallic finish of the Rub n’ Buff. It will only adhere and dry on certain finishes. The more matte or rough the surface the better.

The hardware in my office was a grayish black and I wanted to add a bit more dimension to it. I have a lot of antique gold accents here in my office so it seemed only fitting to match the hardware to those elements.

Before

I went in with the Antique Gold finish for today’s project. I added it sparingly to my brush so that the product only adhered to the top surfaces. I liked the black edges showing through to give it that depth and dimension.

I’ve used it on gold frames with chips in the finish, to light fixtures and hardware. The possibilities are endless really!

Check out my video tutorial on how I applied it to my hardware. You can either use a cloth or a paint brush to apply it. I just depends on the project and what you’re comfortable with. After you apply it you can then go back and polish it off for a lovely sheen.
