Old Flower Prints by Johnson Brothers

I have been patiently waiting for the perfect set of vintage china to make it’s way into our breakfront cabinet for awhile now. I had my heart set on finding a vintage set because I think it’s just so special to own a piece of history. Two days ago I came across a collection on an auction website and fell in love. It was what I had been searching for. The idea that each piece has it’s own identity and flower pattern really appealed to me. The pattern is called “Old Flower Prints” by Johnson Brothers circa 1941-1948 and crafted in England.

They remind me of vintage botanical prints which the name suggests. Each piece is such a work of art. It is such a classic design and I’ve actually never seen this pattern while out shopping and scouring the internet. The china itself is an off white so it looked perfect in our dining room. Our trim and William Morris wallpaper is more off white than true white. I was having trouble finding a pattern that I liked with an off white background. The edges have a beautiful rope edge. On the back of each piece it even shows what type of flower is on the actual plate. I love details like this.

So today I’ve spent about 3 hours cleaning each piece by hand while watching Antiques Roadshow. It’s service for 12, so needless to say I cleaned almost 90 pieces altogether. Thank goodness for rubber gloves y’all!

The flowers in this collection include pansies, sweet peas, roses, nasturtiums, heliotropes, morning glories, daisies, and the list goes on. The set was missing one bread and butter plate so I went on replacements.com and found the last bread and butter plate on their site. It was like it was meant to be.

I think my favorite plate is the salad plate because it has pansies on it. It reminds me of my room as a pre-teen. I had everything pansy in my bedroom. It’s funny how your past really does influence your taste in design later on in life.

My heart has definitely taken a shift in buying vintage and antique pieces. I feel like I’ve always had an old soul. In years past I felt like I kept pulling away from that style just to go with the trends, but in the past 3 years I’ve been finding beauty in old treasures that are timeless and classic.

I’m sure I’ll be playing around with how I display them in our breakfront cabinet. But I think it’s a good start for now.

Thank you so much for flying by for this show and tell feature. I hope y’all have a great rest of your week.

xoxo,

Robyn
