Old Book Look Hack

Hey y’all! I have a quick little DIY project that literally took me only about ten minutes. Awhile back I was wanting to decorate with books on our bookshelves, but I didn’t have the right color book covers. Tragedy right?! I checked out Goodwill and other thrift stores but theirs were more than a dollar for hardbacks, and I wasn’t about to pay that! Sometimes antique books can be quite costly as well. As I was walking down the aisle at Dollar Tree I saw all of these hardback books just waiting to be scooped up! So I went through the shelves like a mad woman grabbing up all the black, white, gray and blue covers. I did not feel buyers remorse at all when I rolled up to the check out counter with 20 books in tow because they were only $1 each! I had quite the assortment of genres and I’m sure the clerk was thinking what the heck is this lady into?! Some of the pages of the books already had a tattered aged look to them which was a bonus. For the most part most of them looked brand spanking new so I decided they needed a little reverse TLC. I hope you will enjoy this “old book” look hack!

Here is what they looked like before.

I poured one cup of coffee for me and another cup of coffee for my little project. This step is necessary.I tore off two paper towels and soaked the outer pages with coffee. Be sure to wait for your coffee to cool a bit and not put scorching hot coffee on the paper towel. I just rubbed down the outer pages and saturated them with coffee.

After soaking them with some nice caffeine they start to look like this. The coffee helps stain the white pages and then when they dry they will be crinkled and old looking. They will also smell of a delicious coffee house!

I stood them up and fanned out the pages so they could dry upright. You could even rough up the covers if you wanted to.

There you have it! My little 10 minute “old book” hack!

Thank you for flying by my nest little birdies!

xoxo,

Robyn 🙂
