Layered Mantel Look

Hey friends and happy Wednesday! This morning I decided I wanted to restyle our mantel in the guest bedroom upstairs. I gathered some items from around the house and just started playing around. I find it to be so much fun to use what you have already in the house in new and different ways. I love the look of a layered styling so today I’m sharing a few tips for getting that layered mantel look.

The best way to get that layered look is to get either a mirror or some art work to start. You want various heights when you’re styling a mantel so your eye is drawn upward.

For this look I used a two black and white photography art pieces. One I actually scored from Goodwill and the other my mom gave to me to commemorate our first trip to New York. A great place to shop art online is on Minted.com They have some wonderful options to choose from!

To add in some texture I went for a clear vase and added a wooden garland string around the neck of it to bring in some natural texture. I love using olive branches because I think you can use them year round. You can also use real branches from your yard. I probably would do this if I were having guests over.

Another tip is to add some old books in a stack of 3. I have a tutorial on how to make new books look old. If you’d like to read that blog you can click here. It’s so simple and easy!

Be sure to add in some personal touches as well. I found this picture of my late grandpa yesterday, so I decided to frame it and add it to the mantel. The coolest thing happened while I was filming a video of this whole process. Be sure to watch below!

Lastly, I added a basket on the hearth with a throw popping out to cozy up the space.

A mixture of different colors and textures is key. I also like to have an overall theme or feel. For this look I wanted it to be monochromatic with black and white photography and then a pop of color with the olive branches.

The paint color on the walls is Sensuous Gray by Sherwin Williams. You can read more about our paint colors throughout our home here.
