5 Ways to Save Money on Home Decor

5 Ways to Save Money on Home Decor - Robyn's Southern Nest

Hey friends and welcome back! Whether you’ve just moved in to a new place or are about to go to college and need some new home decor we can all appreciate saving money. So today, I wanted to share 5 ways to save money on home decor. I am not one to spend full price when it comes to home decor. I just won’t do it. My momma taught me well. So I hope that you will find some of these tips helpful.

Tip #1 Shop At Discount Stores

I’m giving y’all one of my secrets. If you don’t know what Bargain Hunt is you’re missing out! What else can I say. They have a lot of items from Target at a huge discount. I have scored so many Hearth and Hand items here y’all! Click here to see one in your area! If you do don’t have one in your area, I am sure there is something very similar. These types of stores buy out namebrand store’s overstock inventory at a bulk discount price. Just be sure you aren’t getting hosed. The longer it sits on the shelf the deeper the discount. I recently purchase this pillow below that was a part of the Heath and Hand line at Target. Also, if you sign up for their newsletter you can get 30% off one item!!

Tip# 2 Look on Facebook Marketplace

You would be surprised on how many good things you can find on Facebook marketplace. I am still eyeing all the free pianos available. A lot of times people are just trying to move and are getting rid of stuff so that’s a great place to start for any larger pieces of furniture.

Tip #3 Know When Stores Put Their Items on Sale

For example Hobby Lobby circulates what items they have on 50% off. I always check online before I go to the store to see if what I’m looking for is on sale. If you happen to be in the store and you want something that is not on sale be sure to get their app because there is always a 40% off coupon.

Another example is Target. They typically have a set sale schedule that I will insert below. Also keep in mind when things are going to get discounted a second time depending on the type of sticker and what number the cents in the price ends in.

  • Monday – Electronics, Accessories, Kids Clothing, Books, Baby and Stationery
  • Tuesday — Domestics, Women’s Clothing, Pets and Market (food items)
  • Wednesday — Men’s Clothing, Health and Beauty, Diapers, Lawn & Garden items and Furniture
  • Thursday — Housewares, Lingerie, Shoes, Toys, Sporting Goods, Decor & Luggage
  • Friday — Auto, Cosmetics, Hardware, & Jewelry

Target Sticker Price examples:

Sticker prices that end nine are full price.

Sticker prices that end in 8 are discounted.

Sticker prices that end in 4 will not be discounted anymore.

Also be sure that you’re checking your Target Cartwheel to be sure there are any additional savings there before you check out.

Tip #4 Shop the Clearance area TJ Maxx, Marshall’s and HomeGoods

We all know that you can find really good things at TJ Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods. My favorite thing to do is to go in their clearance section and see what I can find. Sometimes you’ll see broken or damaged items so I try to avoid those unless that something I can actually fix. I have even gotten an item and asked if they could discount it anymore when I got to the register. Sometimes they will and sometimes they won’t. But it doesn’t hurt to ask. All they can do is say no.

Tip #5 Utilize Rakuten

So I know I have suggested this before in a previous blog, but if you’re a big online shopper then utilizing Rakuten is something that you guys need to take advantage of. It used to be called Ebates. If not you’re just leaving money in the table! Before I check out of any online store I just hit my Rakuten plugin to see if there are any savings. Most times the plugin will pop up in case you forget. You can save a lot of money by getting a certain percentage of your sale refunded back to you each month with the Rakuten app/plugin. I can’t tell you how exciting it is to receive a check in the mail on the money you saved!
