Ikea Ektorp Sofa Review - Robyn's Southern Nest

Neutral Farmhouse Decor

Today I wanted to share a proper tour of our living room where we spend most of our time. This space has a mix of neutral farmhouse decor. My favorite thing about our living room is the openness to the rest of the house. As you can see there is a pass through cut out that looks into our front formal living and breakfast nook that lets in light from the front of the house.

The kitchen is also open concept so you can easily watch TV while you’re cooking. Everyone always ends up in the kitchen anyway so it’s nice to have the living room open to that space.

Before we moved to this house my husband found these Broyhill hutches from Goodwill that I refinished for either side of the fireplace, and I really think they give a lot of character to this space. They also help to display all my tchotchkes that I’ve collected from Goodwill, Hobby Lobby and TJ Maxx. My top three favorite stores! You can read how I refinished the hutches here.

We painted our kitchen and living room in Oyster Bay by Sherwin Williams which is a nice neutral grayish green. I am so happy we went with this color. Some greens can be too yellow or too blue but this one is a perfect neutral farmhouse color.

The two sofas we bought from IKEA. They are the Ektorp slipcover sofas in Lofallet Beige.  It’s almost been a year since we bought them and they have held up very nicely. I have a full review on them here if you’re in the market for sofas. They give a very relaxed vibe and the best part is that you can wash them anytime they get dirty!

These two houndstooth chairs were from Wal-Mart believe it or not. Here’s some similar chairs. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns either. I mixed the houndstooth with the larger buffalo check to give it a nice bold statement while still staying neutral.

Our coffee table and console table are both from Hayneedle. You can shop them here.

I think to achieve the farmhouse look in here I went with neutral colors (black, white, cream), touches of greenery and wood elements. Those are my top three suggestions for creating that farmhouse style in your homes. Don’t be afraid to mix modern and rustic elements either. As you can see our coffee table and console table are actually more on the modern farmhouse/industrial style, but the softness of the couches gives it more of a relaxed lived in look.

Give me all the pillows! Pillows can really transform a space. I picked up these Opalhouse pillows from Target and I could not be happier with them. These are actually more bohemian style but I think they tie in well with the rest of the decor. I mixed them in with my buffalo check pillow cases from Amazon to give a good mix of patterns.

The mantel decor I usually keep pretty simple since the TV is above it. I did decide to bring in our rustic weathered shutters and put them on either side of the TV stacked up on books. I didn’t want them permanently up there so I thought this looked kind of cool to frame out the TV.

These cute little nesting houses are from Target’s Hearth and Hand line. I like that they break up all the whiteness going on here. I think I’ve trained my eye in away. I look at a space and I’m like that needs some greenery or that needs wood. I’m going to call it “farmhouse vision”. Can any of y’all relate?

I hope you have enjoyed this little mini tour of our living room today. Let me know in the comments what our favorite neutral farmhouse decor pieces are.

Thank you little birdies for flying by my nest!

xoxo,

Robyn
