Nursery Bathroom Plans

This week we are having the bathroom that’s connected to the nursery refinished. The three bathrooms upstairs all have vintage tile from the late 50s/early 60s. Of the three the one that’s connected to the nursery just needed a nice refresh. So I did some research and found a company who refinishes the tile. Being pregnant I didn’t really want a full on renovation going on upstairs. It’s just added stress and you never know what can of worms you might be opening when you tear out tile in a bathroom. The tile in this bathroom is in great shape, so why not just give it a face lift? I’ve also heard that this tile is such a beast to remove.

Here’s a before of the bathroom:

The company we hired regrouts all the tile and then they apply a proprietary bonding agent before applying any paint. So it’s really like you’re getting all new tile installed for a fraction of the price. Before it was a creamy beige with specks in it. I decided to lighten it up in here and go white on the wall tiles and white with gray specks for the floor. I wanted just a slight contrast between the floor and the walls. Plus an all white tile floor sounds like a nightmare.

A view of the progress. Below is a picture of Day 2 of all the walls painted. Today they are starting on the floor including the shower floor. I’ll be updating pictures at the end of the day. A lighter floor in here is going to make such a difference I can’t wait!

The whole process takes about 4-5 days. In our case we are refinishing the tile walls, complete shower, the floor, and the counter. Because our counter is very secure to the tiles we didn’t want to take any chances removing the counter and damaging the surrounding tiles, so we are having the counter refinished as well. It will be the same finish as the floor.

Updated Floor Progress Shots:

I took these at night so they are not the best, but you get the idea. How much better does that look?!

You can also see the counter top is refinished as well.

Just a Note:

I will say if you’re going to have this done be sure that you’re not in the house while it’s being done. The fumes are quite intense. Luckily our bedroom is on the other side of the house and downstairs and it’s not bothering me. They do ventilate and run fans while it’s drying so that does help a lot. Just thought I’d point that out. If our bedroom was upstairs I don’t think we’d be able to sleep up there. Being pregnant I’m staying far away until it completely dissipates just to be safe.

More Plans in Play

I have a fun idea for the sink cabinet so stay tuned for that. Hopefully I can pull it off. We have scheduled the wallpaper to be removed and replaced at the end of the month so that is exciting. I know so many of you love this current wallpaper but it was peeling up and faded in so many areas. It was well loved but time to be replaced and fit the overall color scheme of the nursery. I think you’ll love what we picked out.

We ordered the light fixture last night, but I’m on the fence about replacing the medicine cabinet. I love the vintage feel it brings. Once I see it with the light fixture then I’ll decide on the mirror situation.

After all the finishes are done I can’t wait to accessorize of course. That’s always my favorite part of any project! A fun rug, cute towels, artwork…ahhh I can’t wait!

If you’d like to know the name of the company we hired I’ll be glad to share. You can dm me on Instagram or email me as well robynssouthernnest@gmail.com.
