Checkerboard Tile Flooring
Hey y’all and happy Thursday! I am so excited to finally share our new checkerboard tile flooring in our laundry room we just had installed this week. Our laundry room had a floating cork flooring before that we weren’t crazy about, and it was not in the best shape. I love the look of classic checkerboard flooring, but I wanted to do a spin on a classic look. So after three tile stores we finally decided on a glazed porcelain tile.
I loved the look of white marble and black granite, however this area gets a lot of foot traffic and it’s where we keep Sunny D.’s litter and food station. I just really didn’t want to worry about stains and sealing. So I took to Pinterest and found some beautiful limestone and tumbled marble floors that you might find in a French Chateau. So that was my inspiration for this look. I wanted it to look rustic yet elegant, like it had been here for a long time.
With the help of the wonderful staff at Carolina Custom Flooring, Jose in particular, we were able to match our current cabinetry and appliances with the perfect combination of glazed porcelain tiles.
We went with a 12 x 12 size and had them laid in a diagonal pattern. They are made by American Olean from the Danya Collection. Basin is the charcoal gray tile and Cove is the lighter tile. The price point was really reasonable as well.
The grout took me a little while to choose. I knew I didn’t want something light in color. We had light grout floors at our last house in the mudroom and bathrooms and they never looked clean. The color we decided on is called Shadow by Custom Grout Solutions.
We are still trying to figure out a solution for this room just off of the laundry room. We have our secondary refrigerator in here and this is also where Sunny D.’s stuff is set up. I’m thinking some cool cabinetry on one side for additional pet storage or maybe a cute furniture piece. Stay tuned for that!

Stunning! The texture/color of the tiles really takes the checkerboard tile to a different level. I also love how you’ve elevated the washer and dryer. Just lovely, all around.

I love these floors. The picture makes the tile look a pale greenish gray, but your description and the Donya Collection board make it look all gray. Can you tell tell me if there is the greenish color that I am loooking for? Thank you!

It’s mostly gray. No green in it.
