6 Ways to Keep and Stay Organized

Hey friend! Whenever we moved in to our house a few months ago I kind of just crammed everything into these cabinets just to get all the stuff unpacked and out of boxes. So today I wanted to show you how I organized this space, and also share 6 ways to keep and stay organized in your home.

Whenever we first came to look at this house I definitely claimed this area as mine since I knew that Chris was going to have a dedicated room as his office. I honestly have more stuff than he does, so it worked out perfectly. The previous owners did an amazing job of creating storage in this home, which can be really hard to come by in an old house.

The majority of the cabinets have these handy pull out drawers which really makes life much easier. On the right hand side we keep a lot of our technology and coffee. I think they go hand in hand. LOL! Our coffee bar is right next to this area so I thought these shelves would be perfect for all of the stuff that I don’t necessarily want out on display.

This particular cabinet has a long power strip so you’re able to plug in all your devices such as computers, printers, routers, etc. It’s definitely the main hub of the house.

In the higher cabinets I decided to put some extra tech that we don’t use very often, and some additional coffee bar items. I like to use baskets for these smaller things so that everything is corralled into one area. I want to get some labels to put on these wire baskets so I know exactly whats in them.

I wanted to utilize this Coca-Cola crate in a new way other than decor, so I decided to put all my tea bags in the cubbies. It was the perfect size to do so. I used to have a carousel for our k-cups, but I honestly got tired of filling it up all the time so I just added them to one giant bowl for easy access.

In the middle cabinet I house all of my office supplies that I use on a daily basis as well as some of my favorite decor. Remember just because your items might be behind cabinet doors doesn’t mean you can’t make it look cute. So I styled these shelves as if they were open shelves.

The drawer is where I keep all the small little things. You can easily get containers from the Dollar Tree. I’m not really fancy when it comes to organization. The cheaper the better, because honestly you’re really the only one who sees this stuff regularly. I start at Dollar Tree and then if need be I’ll shop on Amazon or even TJ Maxx and Homegoods.

In the left cabinets I house my photo boxes, letter board letters, CDs, and all my camera equipment. I love these little cubbies on the side for handbags, mail, etc. I also like to keep taller items in here like our step ladder and my tripod.

We can all get organized, but how do we stay organized?

6 Ways to Keep and Stay Organized

  1. Whenever the mail comes make a point of going through it right then and there. Keep what you need and recycle what you don’t. Mail tends to collect everywhere, but if you make a point to sort through it daily those piles won’t collect and get bigger and bigger.
  2. Do you remember in grade school when you had to clean up your area at the end of the day? Well that’s still the way my mind works. After I’m done working I clean up my area. That way when I come back to it the next day I don’t have to worry about the mess. Everything has a place, it’s just about taking the extra 5 minutes to put those things away at the end of the day.
  3. Use baskets to corral items. If you don’t have time to file paperwork use a basket to keep it all together. That way it has a designated area before you need to file it away properly. It makes your home look tidy and in order while you’re still in the process of doing the “deep organizing” as I like to call it.
  4. Set aside 10 minutes a week to do the things you’ve been meaning to do. All it takes is 10 minutes to keep and stay organized. Carve out the time on your busy schedule and you’ll be glad you did. No more wandering around the house wondering where the scissors went.
  5. Speaking of lost scissors. Make sure everything in your household has a designated area and educate your family on those areas. After you’re finished with a project just take that additional 5 minutes to put the items back in the designated area.
  6. Every quarter I like to go through the closets and drawers that seem to “pile up” and just do a clean out. Make three piles: keep, donate, trash. I’ve gotten pretty good at this method since we have moved 7 times in 10 years. Now that we are in our forever home I will have to make more of a point to do this frequently.
