Decorating After Christmas

Hey friends and welcome back! I hope you had a great weekend! One thing that I think many of us struggle with after we take down all of our Christmas decor, is how do we decorate now? So today I’m going to share a few tips of my own for decorating after Christmas.

After Christmas I like to keep it very neutral in my home. After all the red and green and other bright colors come down, I like to tone it down a bit for a simple and classic look. I still like to incorporate some greenery that’s not overly Spring or Summer. I think that lambs ear, cotton, eucalyptus and even boxwood is a great alternative if you want to get rid of all the Christmas evergreens. When I was in Hobby Lobby the other day I picked up these green stems because I thought they would look great on top of our kitchen cabinets along with some cotton stems mixed in.

Tip #1 Take down all Christmas red and bright colors that are associated with Christmas. This will immediately neutralize you decor for that transition to Winter. As you can see below I left my little white houses on my mantel and put up another lambs ear garland to warm up the space. Birch logs are also great for decorating with as well. I like to keep a bundle of them on my hearth year round.

Tip #2 Mix in some cotton with your greenery. Here I put some of my greenery sprigs with my cotton balls for a nice neutral look on my scale.

Tip #3 Take down Christmassy bows from wreaths and garland if you are going to leave them up for the Winter. That way they have a more natural look for Winter.

Tip #4 Introduce some pinecones into your decor. A nice bowl full of pinecones is very Wintery and simple! Here I just placed some pinecones on top of some fake snow with a candle in the middle of my lantern. It’s super easy and simple!

Tip #5 Keep it Simple. I always love how clean my house feels when all the extra Christmas decor is gone. Don’t feel the need to over decorate a space just because you took something down and it looks bare. Give it a few days to come together after all the Christmas decor is gone. You may have to shuffle things around before they find their new home, but that’s the fun of it. Take your time and keep it simple for a fresh start to the new year!

Tip #6 Keep the Cozy. Don’t feel like you have to put away all your cozy pillows and throws just because Christmas is over. Most likely it’s still cold at night, so you’ll still want those babies out when you relax in your spaces at night. I like to leave out my Christmassy candles for the remainder of Winter so I can use them up before Spring. A nice candle burning in your home is an instant way to make your space feel cozy for Winter.
