Fall Front Porch Sittin

It’s that time of year again. A cool snap in the air, less humidity if you’re here in the South, and PSLs galore! I woman’s favorite time of year no doubt! To get me in the mood to decorate I broke out my Fall scented candles from last year with Football on in the background to set the tone. When I started decorating it hadn’t quite gotten cool here temperature wise, but I just couldn’t wait any longer. So here are a few tips when decorating your front porch for each season:

  1. Have a color theme and keep it consistent
  2. Plants and or flowers are a must
  3. Door decor or welcoming features/vignettes
  4. Inviting spaces to sit and gather for hours of porch sittin

Orange is definitely not one of my favorite colors and I believe its because I bleed Garnet and Black. If you are from my neck of the woods you understand. Go Cocks!…I mean…yay Football Season! However you can’t avoid orange all together if you are decorating for Fall. I mean it just screams Fall!

Color theme: Orange, Cream or off white, natural tones, and a bit of God’s favorite color: Green 🙂

Plants and Flowers: I picked up my white mums at Lowes since they seemed to have the best selection of colors. I wanted white for something different and I liked the pop of white with all of the orange tones. Be sure to buy them when they haven’t bloomed yet that way you get the longest shelf life. And water water water! Lowes really had some cool gourds this year as well. I picked out these awesome white, light orange, and the most beautiful green colored pumpkins. Yes they were a little pricier than your normal orange pumpkins, but I figured they will last a long time!

Door Decor/Vignette Features: When we bought the house I fell in love with our rounded door and the adorable flower box they added under the window. Recently I decided to paint it from country blue to and off white using my trusty Waverly Chalk Paint in the color plaster. I think it really stands out now especially with the fall foliage I scored at Dollar Tree. You don’t have to get fancy artificial flowers to get the look you want. It just takes some picking and choosing to make sure it doesn’t turn out looking cheap if you know what I mean.

As I had mentioned in a previous Instagram post I had this old wooden ladder that we found in our previous house that I had been wanting to use for quite some time. So I pulled it out of our garage and decided to prop it up in the corner of our porch and hang white pumpkins and a burlap FALL sign I made on the fly. I cut out squares of some left over burlap I had from a previous project and painted the letters with some chalk paint. The white pumpkins my mom actually picked up for me at Michaels. I strung the pumpkins and burlap letters once dry and hung them vertically as an inviting feature to welcome in the new sign. I think it brings out our farmhouse style to the porch which was my overall goal. I really liked how it turned out in the end, and I may just keep the ladder there each season and switch up the decor hung from it.

4. Inviting Spaces: I can’t take credit for this one. My hubby Chris actually picked out these pillow cases for our bench from Lowes. We had Robin’s Egg blue pillows for Summer, so he took to Amazon and found these orange pillow cases and khaki and white stripe pillow case for the middle pillow. Stripes will never go out of style so I like to incorporate stripes all over the house. Prints can sometimes date really quick. But stripes…they stick. It helps warm up the space on the porch and you can’t help but want to take a load off and sip on some hot apple cider while taking in the Fall breeze and watch the leaves fall.
