Hallway Christmas Tree

If you caught my stories on Instagram you would know that I almost died from a giant spider on the Christmas tree bag. Well not really but my heart definitely skipped a beat. I’m not a fan of spiders especially large ones and this sucker was large! Chris came to the rescue and saved me from said spider so I could get the hallway Christmas tree upstairs. I decided to do a black and white Christmas tree to go along with the toile and houndstooth upholstery we have upstairs.

As you can see I love mixing patterns. I read somewhere recently, the key to layering patterns is to be sure they all have the same color or tone. In this case it was easy because they are all black and white. I wanted a little pop of color on the tree so I added in some sage green ornaments to tie in our painted green cabinet in the hallway.

I knew that my $9 thrifted toile tablecloth I found this Summer would come in handy this Christmas season. I also added in my thrifted $30 toile bench as well. Toile is such a classic pattern and can mix in nicely anywhere in your home. I wanted to use everything I already had for this tree. I love the challenge of using the things I love just in a different way each year.

The tree itself is from King of Christmas. It’s their 7 foot Prince Flock with 400 warm lights. I do love their trees because they don’t shed a lot of their flocking. I think after I put up this tree I had maybe 10 pieces of flocking to vaccum and that is it! Flocked Christmas trees can be a pain because they can get super messy, but not this one! Even the bag I took it out of hardly had any flocking mess in it either.

The plaid ribbon is one of my favorites. I picked that up at Wal-Mart last year. It’s wired so it makes it easier to use for bows. I always recommend using wired ribbon for the holidays. It will make you life so much easier.

A few years ago I saw a hack for filling in sparce areas. You get dusters from the Dollar store and tuck them on the branches that have gaps. It will make it look like your tree has snow on it while filling in the gaps. It looks best on flocked trees.

Another tip is that if you are using ornament hooks be sure to loop them tightly around the tree so you can’t really see the actual hook. It’s a much nicer look and you won’t be able to see the ugly hooks. I do prefer to add velvet ribbon to my glass ornaments. It does take some extra time, but once you do it that first time you won’t have to worry about losing the wire hook and it will last for years.

That living room definitely looks like all the Christmassy movies you can see on Netflix, thanks so much for bringing a bit of holiday into 2022. I’ve only now come across your website, and I am going through some of your articles now. You’re giving me inspiration for the new year – if I could, I’d keep the Christmas decoration in the living room all year round!
