Guest Room Essentials

guest room essentials

Making your guests feel at home while they are away from their home is very important to me as a host. Today I’m sharing my top 15 Guest Room Essentials. I could go on and on with this list but I’ve tried to narrow it down to things I would want if I visited a friend or family member.

Bottled Water & Snacks

There’s nothing worse than not having a drink of water in the middle of the night. So I try and keep at least 3-4 bottles of water out on a tray. If you want to get fancy you can make your own personalized stickers or labels. Or just peel off the label to make it more aesthetically pleasing. Snacks are always a good idea. If your guets are having a late night craving they might not feel comfortable going in your pantry, so why not just leave a few snacks out for them to graze on.

2. Mini Toiletries

We’ve all been there, forgeting our toothpaste or toothbrush when packing. A little tip: Just take the toothbrush and toothpaste from the dentist that you get twice a year for cleanings and put them in a cute container for your guests.

3. Closet space or a space for their luggage and hanging clothes.

The closet in our guest room I keep rather empty. I store a few of my extra throw pillows in there but for the most part I keep it clutter free for guests to put their clothes. Also have a few extra hangers in there as well.

4. Extra pillows

Have a variety of pillows for your guests ranging from firm, to fluffy and in between.

5. WiFi Password

Have the WiFi password handy on a sign near the bed or posted somewhere visible so your guests can access the internet during their stay.

6. Extra Seating

Having another place to sit is nice so when they are putting on their shoes or want to read a book there is another place to sit other than the bed. Be sure to have a reading lamp next to the chair or sofa for adequate reading light as well.

7. An Extra Blanket

Other than the bedding on the bed it’s nice to offer some extra blankets in case they get cold at night or just want to be a bit more cozy. You can store them in a basket next to the bed if you don’t have a lot of storage in the room.

8. USB charger or Power Strip

I always judge a hotel by the amount of outlets or USB chargers they have on hand. Make it easy for your guests to plug in their devices by having either a power strip or USB and power brick in one like the one shown below.

9. Fresh Towels

Having fresh towels and wash cloths out in the open for them to find easily. I like to either hang them on the towel bar or leave them on the bed that way they don’t have to hunt to find them.

10. Books or Magazines

I like to keep a variety of books and magazines out for pleasure reading.

11. Wastebasket

I keep a wastebasket in the bathroom. If you bedroom isn’t connected to the bathroom I’d suggest keeping one somewhere in the room as well.

12. Box of tissues

Tissues are always an essential when it comes to making your guests feel at home. You can keep them on the nightstand or somewhere in the bathroom.

13. Blackout Shades or Curtains

Be sure your guests feel secure at night by having black out shades or curtains so they can sleep in a little longer.

14. Hairdryer

This is the number one item I always make sure a place has before I pack my own. It’s just one extra appliance you don’t have to pack and it’s nice to have for your guests as well.

15. Diffuser or scented candle

I like to keep a diffuser in the bathroom for when my guests arrive. That way when they walk in to put their things down there is a lovely welcoming scent and you don’t have to worry about an open flame. I also keep a nice candle out in case they want to light one at night before bed. It’s all about making them cozy in your home.

Having your guests feel welcome and not homesick is my overall goal. Of course there’s nothing like your own bed. If someone could figure out how we could travel with them that would be great! lol!

Thanks for flying by friend!

xoxo,

Robyn
