A Few Easy Tips to Refresh Your Home

As I was hanging out in our living room this morning listening to music I got inspired to share a few easy tips to refresh your home for the Spring.

  1. Hardware Update:    Add some new hardware to furniture to give it a quick and easy new look. Its kind of like putting on mascara. It just adds a little spark and can totally change the look of a piece of furniture. My favorite source is of course Hobby Lobby. I just recommend waiting for their knobs and pulls to go 50% off. They cycle their department sales weekly so just add your favorites to your online account so you can easily add them to your cart when they go on sale. Here are some of the pulls I updated here around my nest.

2. Inexpensive greenery for the Spring/Summer : Its very easy to add some faux greenery around your home. I’ve started to collect a few arrangements here and there and I have to say it really changes the look of any space. Of course you can have the real stuff too, but for us….well….Mr. Mickey D. likes to eat the real stuff. We only have 2 real indoor plants that he doesn’t mess with for whatever reason. Silly cat! Here are a few of my favorite places to score inexpensive faux plants:

TJ Maxx, Hobby Lobby, Ikea, Homegoods, Target and Michaels

3. Books:  I was at the Dollar Tree the other night and I went down the book aisle and I started opening the hardback books to see what their spine’s and backs looked like and collected an assortment of colors that I thought would look good on our bookshelves in our den and in our living room. I picked up 13 hardback books for $13 dollars. Typically thats less than Goodwill or some thrift stores. Their hardbacks are typically $1.29.  So needless to say I stocked up! Then you just turn them the opposite way on your shelf so it give a cool vintage feel. Some of the books had those tattered pages so it makes for a good look when you display them.

4. New Rugs: I’m really into buying rugs right now. You don’t have to break the bank to get them either. I’m all about a coupon code and waiting for clearance/holiday sales online. My favorite sources are Rugs USA, Wayfair, Hayneedle and Overstock. A lot of times online retailers sell the same rugs, so just be sure to do a search in Google under the shopping tab to see the lowest price, and always look for a coupon code! Don’t buy full price! I don’t think I’ve paid over $200 for any of our rugs below.

5. Pillows: So I might have a slight problem or should I say addiction to pillows, but what woman doesn’t…lets be honest! However lately I just search for the cases instead of the whole pillow that way I don’t overflow my overflowed pillow closet. Here are a few good sources for just the pillow cases. That way you can change them out seasonally as well.

Wish, Amazon, Hobby Lobby

6. Rearranging furniture: I mean…its FREE!!!! If you’re like me, I like to rearrange and switch things up on a monthly sometimes weekly basis. I know I get that from my mom. I always remember coming home to a newly rearranged living room, and thought it was soooo cool! I even remember rearranging my own bedroom every few months growing up. Its something about the newness feeling that I just loved and still love! Here’s a view of a room I switched up recently after we ordered another matching chair from Hayneedle.

7. Reupholster your chairs: A very quick fix is to recover your padded fabric chairs. We had these in our wedding with a very pretty yellow fabric, but I still wanted to use them in our bedroom so I picked up 1 yard of stripe duck egg fabric at Hobby Lobby and 1 hour later…newly recovered chairs! Just be sure you have a staple gun and some sharp fabric scissors. The yard was only $5! So easy..well…stripes aren’t that easy but I gave it my best shot to get them in line. Here’s how they came out!

Thank you little birdies for flying by my nest!
