Southern Nest Weekend Rehatch – (IKEA, PAINT, BUILD, PACK, REPEAT)

Other than feeling like I’ve had whiplash after partaking in a work related event called “Whirly Ball” look it up…its bananas…I feel like this past weekend was really rather productive. After staining a bathroom ladder shelf together, Chris and I took 2 car loads of stuff up to our nest and unpacked what we could without having our furniture there yet. Half of our living room looks like items a home stager would pick from. All the decor lined up for your choosing. We also did a little prepping for the painters to come and paint the kitchen, family room and upstairs bedroom, and afterwards decided to make a trip down to IKEA.

We didn’t really have a plan when we went in, which ended up being pretty dangerous to say the least. We ended up finding a cool outdoor table and umbrella set for under $300 for our back deck. As for the chairs…I’m still on the hunt for those. I want something colorful and fun without being too shockingly neon or overly pricey!

Chris also wanted to set up his home office downstairs in the basement so we picked out a cool desk top and metal legs to be paired with his bright red file cabinet he scored at Goodwill for $10 bucks a few weeks back. We also found this floor lamp for only $50 to go with his contemporary/modern/industrial look he’s going for down in the basement. We are really struggling to find decor that goes with the “faux” cork flooring they put down there. Eventually we will lay down something different, but for now… rugs will have to cover it. I’ve even looked into painting the existing floor. Who knows. First things first. We will surely come back to that down the road.

We are still debating whether or not to do bunk beds in one of the extra bedrooms for when our family comes to visit. The issue with the bunk bed is…will the top bunkie get a fan blade to the head if they sit up or not??..still TBD. 🙂 I also picked up some cute lanterns for around the house that I couldn’t resist, along with 99 cent toilet brushes (a necessity for sure) for all the bathrooms. You can’t beat that! There were many many other items like this farmhouse sink I was lusting over, no drooling over, but I digress. Note to self don’t buy until you measure! That’s what I kept telling myself each time I would round the corner and there it would be again. It was just so darn cute!

So after closing down the place we headed home car load full of goodies and called it a night!

On Sunday we were up bright and early for the painters to come and paint our Kitchen and Family Room in Sherwin Williams “Oyster Bay”. As many of you know a paint color can really make or break a home. And in this case its making it big time! It has made such a difference and now it is actually starting to feel like our home.

We also got rid of the pink ceiling in one of the upstairs bedrooms I had mentioned in a previous post. It made such a difference in the lighting of the room its unbelievable.

While we had the painter over I decided to do some painting of my own. I went on over to our local Ace Hardware where I met the nicest staff. I honestly felt like I was in an episode of Gilmore Girls. They couldn’t have been more helpful. Yes some things are little pricier, but you can’t beat the customer service! I went with “Garden Stone” by Clark and Kensington into a Valspar Paint. I will have a full detailed tutorial on this endeavor next week once I’m finished. So stay tuned for that! I’m sure there will be many tips and tricks and lessons learned since this is the first time I’m tackling cabinets.

After taking a quick break from our painting and building projects yesterday, Chris called me over to the front porch window and pointed out that we had a Robin making her nest under the roof and column, a perfect place for said nest in my opinion. She was just so busy making her nest as we were making ours. It definitely put a smile on my face and made me feel more at home. It really made me reflect on the small moments in life, like sitting on the couch watching out our window at a mother bird making a home for her babies. Some thing that I can’t wait to do one day myself.

Thank you little birdies for flying by my nest,

Robyn
